Do you know what Tanabata is? It’s Japanese Star Festival on July 7.It goes back to an old Chinese folk legend, which told that the two star lovers –Vega, the Weaver Star and Altair, the Cowherd Star—could see each other just once a year after crossing over the Milky Way on the 7th day of the 7th month. It’s a Japanese custom to display bamboo branches and decorate them with Tanzaku (strips of paper on which to write wishes) in the days leading up to July 7. In Asobook we now display bamboo branches, and Tanzaku (strips of paper) is prepared for you to write your wishes. Please feel free to take one and write your wish!Reference: “A Visual Guide to Annual Events in Japan” by Noriko Takano
